Why kite power?

Our novel wind energy technology will reduce the cost of wind energy by up to 40% onshore and even more offshore.

Requiring only a floating platform instead of fixtures into the seabed, our system opens up offshore wind in deep water with resulting energy costs equivalent to onshore, horizontal-axis wind turbines (HAWT).

Simply put, KPS technology offers cheaper wind power and opens up more sites to be exploited profitably.

How Does It Work?

  • Our system uses high performance kites
to drive a generator based on the ground.
Much like the tip of a wind turbine
blade, the kite flies in a circular path
    perpendicular to the wind.

  • The kite pulls a tether at high tension, which rotates a winch
at ground level that is coupled to an electrical generator.

  • As the line is pulled from the winch
drum, the kite moves further from the winch.
    The kite's circular motion now
    resembles a corkscrew.

Meet The Team.

Bill Hampton, MD

Bill is a veteran engineer and entrepreneur, pioneering winch systems and cranes for the marine industry and leading development in multiple UK cleantech firms

Dr Allister Furey, CTO

Allister's Evolutionary Robotics PhD has been key in automating our flight control system, he also finds time to manage systems integration and the test program

John Hardy, Director

With over 30 years experience in Marine Engineering, John's knowledge in fabricating rugged, powerful machines and getting them to deliver is invaluable

Oliver Winks, Software Lead

Oli led development of ground-breaking motion capture software at Animazoo, and is making sure KPS builds industrially scalable software from day one.

Chris Hornzee Jones, Aerodynamics Lead

Chris' team at Aerotrope pioneers new ground in fluid dynamics from HAWT blade design to world speed record sailing craft.

Dr Henry Rebbeck, Wing design lead

The UK's most experienced kite designer, Henry brings the expertise of his firm Mutiny to bear on the most radical and effective wing designs possible

Dr Colin Mill, Avionics lead

When your avionics lead has designed and built instruments that travelled to Saturn's moon Titan, you know you're in good hands.

George Tateson, Mechanical Engineer

Coming from the tidal power industry, George leads the CAD and CAM efforts, gets the machines operational, heroically keeps them running and is a key test crew member.

Bert Mac, Electronics Engineer

Expert 3d pilot and modelling genius, Bert works with Colin and CSM to bring components from idea to reality fast, keeping the prototyping moving.

Xavier Xeng, Systems Engineer

Our newest recruit, Xeng is torn between coding and hardware, using his Robotics MSc to good effect.

We're Hiring!

Do you have experience in prototyping and developing new technology? Deep knowlege of aerodynamics or control systems? Maybe you're a crack programmer or an awsome composites fabricator or electronics wizard?

If so we want to hear from you!

We also offer 6 month internships to compsci, mecheng and aeroeng students and graduates.

Email your cv to careers {at} kitepowersolutions.com, and lets go flying!
